Admin approval

If you're seeing a message that you need admin approval to finish setting up Trickle, it means your organization's email or IT settings require explicit permission before third-party tools can connect.

This is common in company-managed Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 environments.

What admin approval means

Your email provider is blocking Trickle from connecting automatically until an IT administrator, Microsoft 365 admin, or Google Workspace admin approves it.

This isn't an error, it's a security control set by your organization.

When you'll see this message

You may be prompted for admin approval if:

  • Your company restricts third-party apps by default

  • You're using a work-managed Microsoft 365 account

  • Your organization requires consent for email or calendar access

  • You're not listed as an admin for your email domain

Even founders, CEOs, or account owners can see this message if IT policies are in place.

What to do next

Option 1: Ask your IT or email admin to approve Trickle

This is the fastest path in most organizations.

Share with them:

  • Trickle needs access to email and calendar

  • Approval is required to complete setup

You can send them the email template below, which explains what permissions are required and how to approve them:

Hi,

I’m trying to use the Trickle app (https://trickle.ai) with my work calendar, but I’m running into a notification that says Administrator consent is required.

To give you some context: Trickle AI organizes your inbox, helps with scheduling and writes better-than-human meeting notes. Trickle AI plugs directly into Gmail, Outlook, Teams, Google Meet and Zoom without the need for additional software.

The app is meant for individual use, with both free and paid plans. One of my connected calendars is my work calendar here at the company, which is why I’m requesting access through IT.

How Trickle accesses a user’s calendar:

  • It uses OAuth apps in Azure or Google, depending on the email/calendar platform.

  • These apps are verified by Microsoft and Google.

  • Permissions are delegated, Meaning Trickle only has access to the same resources I personally have access to.

  • It does not request organization-wide access, only to my calendar, and only with my consent.

  • I can revoke access at any time through my Microsoft or Google account management portal.

I’m not sure what type of request you see on your side, but I assume it’s asking for an admin consent. From what I understand, you should be able to either approve this specifically for my account, or whitelist the app for the organization. Even if whitelisted, each user still has to consent individually before Trickle can access their calendars.

Could you let me know what information you need from me to proceed? I’d really appreciate your help in enabling this so I can connect my work calendar with Trickle.

Kind regards,
<your name>

Option 2: If you are the admin, but still blocked

In some cases, users are admins but haven't granted app consent yet.

  • Microsoft 365 admins may need to approve the app at the tenant level

  • Google Workspace admins may need to allow Trickle in Admin Console → Security → API controls

Option 3: Try with a personal inbox

If you don't need Trickle connected to your work inbox right now, you can:

  • Sign up using a personal Gmail, Outlook or Apple account

  • Start using Trickle immediately

  • Connect your work inbox later once approval is granted

Common questions

Why does my colleague not need approval, but I do?
Different domains, inbox types or IT policies can behave differently, even within the same company.

Does this mean Trickle is unsafe?
No. Admin approval is a company security preference, not a risk warning.

Can Trickle bypass admin approval?
No, and it shouldn't. These controls are enforced by your email provider.
